The Heart Behind Stonehouse

Stonehouse began with a simple belief: that a shop can feel like home, and that beauty belongs in the everyday places where life unfolds.

For owner Fran Rouse, that belief was shaped early by a hardworking and deeply creative family. Her father’s passion for oil painting filled their home with imagination and color, while her mother brought warmth through cooking, gathering, and later, a remarkable gift for sewing—creating quilts, costumes, and handmade details that carried both beauty and care. It was a home where creativity and hospitality lived side by side, layered with texture, character, and a strong sense of togetherness.

Those early influences continue to shape Stonehouse today: a place where thoughtful surroundings invite people to slow down, discover something meaningful, and feel at home. From soft lighting to curated vignettes and welcoming corners, Stonehouse reflects Fran’s belief that beauty is best experienced slowly.

Where Stonehouse Began

Stonehouse first opened in 2018 in Oswego, inside an old stone house whose character inspired both the name and the spirit of the shop. The setting reflected what Fran had always envisioned: a place where beauty, warmth, and thoughtful detail felt woven into every room.

In 2021, Stonehouse moved to Wheaton. A community Fran has called home for more than 37 years. The move brought Stonehouse closer to the town and people she knows well, while allowing the vision to continue growing through new collections, evolving spaces, and a deeper sense of hospitality.

At its Heart, Stonehouse Remains a Haven for Thoughtful Living

A place where beauty is meant to be discovered slowly and carried home with meaning.
